Shift Your Shopping Launches 3rd Annual Holiday Campaign
Local and Independent Businesses Coalition and 160 Partner Organizations across the nation encouraging everyone to Choose Local and Independent This Holiday Season
November 1st, 2013 — Shift Your Shopping, an coalition of over 160 local business organizations, today announced the launch of the 3rd annual Shift Your Shopping Holiday Campaign. From November 1st to December 31st the campaign will encourage everyone to Choose Local & Independent businesses for their holiday purchases. Making the shift to Local Independents is one of the fastest ways to build strong local economies and create jobs in our community.[i]
The campaign, now in its third year, is lead by The American Independent Business Alliance in partnership with the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, The Institute for Local Self-Reliance and 160 Local Business organizations across North America. Shift Your Shopping will encourage residents to Choose Local and Independent businesses for their holiday season purchases. A 2013 survey of Independent Businesses by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance showed Independent businesses in communities with an active “buy indie/buy local” campaign run by a local business/citizen alliance saw revenues grow 8.6% in 2012, compared to 3.4% for those in areas without an alliance.[ii]
